November Update…

November was a month of movies, Guy Fawkes night, christmas lights and skating…

I have seen so many movies this month I can barely remember what they were. Along with the regular releases, which are generally out about 8 weeks after they release in Canada or the USA, there was a French film festival that caught Michelle’s attention.

The month started out with Guy Fawkes night on the 5th of November (fireworks night), typical to Glasgow, because there was a Celtic football game on the official night, they postponed Guy Fawkes till the 6 November!@#! amazing huh! a yearly cult, changed because of a football game. Anyway, from about the 3rd week of October through to the 2nd week of November, people were letting off fireworks in the streets, because we are so high up overlooking Glasgow, we had a picture perfect window for watching fireworks displays for weeks!

Then there was the “switching the lights on” ceremonies. Downtown, both in Glasgow and Edinburgh they decorate the cities with lights, xmas lights, and string of lights between buildings etc. It is really beautiful. It gets dark here around 3.30pm in the afternoon now, so the lights are lovely and very practical. They also set up an outdoor skating rink in George square this year – it’s brilliant. In Quebec everyone can ice skate, so when I get on my skates, I look like a right dork, falling over, holding onto anything I can reach etc…. here EVERYONE falls over (except Michelle) – no-one knows how to stop, so you just skate into the wall to stop – it’s hilarious – I’m even better than most of them….(except the little kids of course).
