Food diaries

We had a great weekend with Mad & Dave (& Steph too!).
Their wish list was good food, good drink, and pretty streets. Which is easily achieved around here….

We began with aperitifs here, then a magnificent meal round the corner where we started with one appetiser of foie gras to share and 5 glasses of Sauternes followed by a mix of entrecotes and duck – and then a quick change of venue for desserts, cafe and digestifs. Saturday had us out for brunch then taking a walk along Paris Plage. I have to admit I was a little disappointed. It’s less like a beach than I imagined although it did have cool triangular trampoline thingys to sit on along with the requisite beach chairs and chaise longues. By mid afternoon Stephanie & Michelle were up (they spent the night, and the early hours of the morning until sunrise dancing and drinking at the Triptych!) and we headed out for salads & rosé for lunch before walking up through the 9th arrondisement to the 18th and the Sacre Coeur followed by cocktails chez Au Soleil de la Butte.

Early evening aperitifs were taken with Valerie in the Jardin Les Halles in front of the Eglise St Eustache on our infamous picnic blanket. Champagne & rosé with cashews and crisps and the setting sun – it was lovely. Dinner at La Grille Montorgueil followed by to die for fondant au chocolate and cafe at Le Comptoir.

Sunday morning Stephanie did a croissant, pain au chocolate and croissant aux almondes run, which we added to our cheese, chocolate, cafe & juice and we brunched at home. The morning was spent lazing about the house reading while it quietly drizzled outside. Very pleasant. It stopped around 4 and we wandered over to the rive gauche and visited shops & boutiques in St Germain de Pres & the Quartier Latin before crossing over to discover the tiny streets on the Isle St Louis and returning home through the Marais. Only to head out later for a scrumptious Thai meal on rue Tiquetonne.

It was a lovely weekend. So nice to see both Mad & Dave I didn’t realise how much we missed having them nearby. They travelled home Monday night after visiting with another friend of theirs in the Tuilleries yesterday – leaving me with a head full of options and plans for their next visit, sooner rather than later, hopefully….

  1. Thanks for a fabulous weekend guys. We rounded off the culinary experience at a Chinese ‘restaurant’ somewhere north of Newcastle on the way home. We chose the eat-in option and dined with plastic cutlery straight from take-away containers. Welcome back to the UK!
