Luck

You’d never believe it, we didn’t at first….

Friday lunchtime, Michelle won 2 tickets to see Coldplay live at Bellahousten Park in Glasgow. Friday late afternoon, I won 2 tickets to see Coldplay live at Bellahousten Park in Glasgow.

As I said, we didn’t really believe it. We offered the other set of tickets to Julie but told her, “if it’s a mistake and we’ve only won 1 set, you miss out”. That was the condition.

So, Saturday evening we met Eleanor and Julie for a quick meal at Elbo on Argyle St before heading off to the concert. We’d been standing up all day in Edinburgh at the rally, I was exhausted, but we got there, secured two sets of tickets and in we went.

Amazing.

The place was set up like a festival. About 75 different food vans set up selling any number of junk food options. The gates opened at 4pm, Coldplay were scheduled to start at 9pm – but the crowd looked like they had been there for days. Drunk just barely describes it. We headed towards the front, up till that invisible line that we thought was the line behind where we would not be hit by Lager Showers (a phenomenon we have only ever experienced here in Glasgow – grown men throw full glasses of lager into the crowd!). We were wrong. We got hit.

The show was excellent. The band was good as well. We saw a real fight, which ended with the women pulling their men off each other, we saw girls being dragged past us by their armpits by their boyfriends – out cold. We saw grown men get drunker and drunker and end up in a lager induced cuddle right before our very eyes. It was illuminating. Very illuminating. Very Glasgow.

But most of all it was brilliant. The band was on a high from having played at Live8 in London earlier in the day. You couldn’t help but smile. I even managed to forget my aching feet for close to two hours.

Brilliant. How lucky was that?
